Testimonials About Edie's New Ladies Styling Video....

The following is a Testimonial by Glenn Baker

Edie,
After just finishing your
Ladies Styling tape, it is by far the best ever I have seen since I started collecting dance videos four years ago to aid in my dance training. I have dozens of tapes by ballroom champions attempting to explain the basic components that make up styling for Latin and rhythm dancing at just a basic level, but never did I expect to see so much covered in a tape lasting [90 minutes]. And for a tape to cover something so complex as styling, you did it in a very simple way.

The material was explained and broken down in the simplest terms using every day examples that we can all relate too. Not only were we given ideas of what we can do, and how to do it but we were told when to do it and most importantly what NOT to do. Then it was demonstrated at least twice. What I really enjoyed was the fact that none of this information was presented in a way that seemed like it was being rushed by the teacher. You and Solomon took your time to make sure it was clear to the viewer and you made the tape very well entertaining to watch. I found myself laughing while learning and the quality of the video production was very high quality. But the most important part was the content, you explained the arms from fingers to shoulders, the ribs, hips, legs, and feet as well as the head. Then how to put it all together and use it while dancing with a partner and without (like while doing shines). As a teacher, not only do I have better ideas on how to teach this but I am recommending the tape to my students.

The partnership segment was very much worth the money spent in itself. I hope to see a sequel to this tape at a even more advanced level in the future( Is that possible?).

As a man, I have found that this tape is of most importance to have in my personal library. Almost all the material covered applies to men and their styling, just more subtle, even though this tape was marketed for the ladies. Maybe in the future tape, a segment can be done for men so they present that more masculine image without being obscene on the floor and without looking feminine too.

In closing, it is the best tape on the market! It is not expensive, and is the most informative one I have ever run across and I have some 300 plus videos in my collection. If someone doesn't agree, I'll buy their copy from them (IT would make great gifts for my fellow dancers and students)!

Edie, I just wanted to let you know that I purchased both of your ladies styling videos, and I have learned SO much from there. For that, I thank you. I live in Charlotte, NC, and while there are plenty of salseras here, there are only a handful (or just one or two) who effectively style. Soon, I hope to be counted among them.

The videos are great, and you are so personable that I feel as though I know you....kinda weird, huh!?

I also very much enjoy your articles as you address so well what most of newbee salseras experience, think, and do.

Keep the videos and newsletters coming!

Sincerely, Elizabeth

From Mr. William Serrano, Recommended Video Reviewer:
Ladies have been asking about a recommendation for a ladies styling video and here it is: Ladies Styling & Partnering Techniques with Edie

On this excellent hour and 20 minute video Edie teaches the ladies how to literally move every part of her body, and how to show proper attitude from head to toe.

There are sections devoted to Arm & finger styling, shoulder styling, arm movements during Cumbia and Side steps, head bangers, and hip & leg styling during the basic step. She even shows you how to look your best when posing for pictures.

Later on she brings up two very important concepts: Edie’s Freedom Concept, where the lady is taught to replace the first 3 beats of her basic step by some really cool moves, and Syncopated Styling, where lady

injects movements during the 3-4 and 7-8 beats, where there’s usually not much going on.

What’s so great about this video is that everything taught is immediately put to practical use. Salomon Rivera, Edie’s professional partner at the time this video was made, assists Edie throughout this video, and Edie uses everything she teaches in a real dancing situation.

Salomon takes over the last 30 minutes of this video, and together with Edie demonstrate partnering techniques such as the four points of connection needed for a good frame, lead and follow exercises, crossing exercises, basic Latin motion, using syncopated steps, and Samba motion.

There are a couple of more dance demos to round out the video and so ends a wonderfully thought out video. I have seen very few videos that meet expectations, but this one surpasses them. Also, since so many of the concepts are tied in to partnering, it’s a great opportunity to work with

your favorite dance partner and learn together.

Remember ladies, the man is the frame and you are the picture, after getting through the material on this video, you’ll be a beautiful picture no matter who the frame is.

Happy dancing. - William Serrano

Dear Edie,
I watched your video on Saturday morning. I remember feeling overwhelmed after watching the video, but during your styling class,. That night, I went to the salsa party at let's dance LA where I was able to experiment with those new styling techniques I just learned. I got a lot of compliments from partners I regularly dance with. By the end of the night, those new styling techniques started to come out naturally. :) I love your video!  Thank you!  - Suzy

Hi Edie! I just want to say although I am a guy I purchased your second edition of women's styling. I have learned allot from this video because it helps the guys understand what the woman is doing and in turn the guys become better dancers.

You and your husbands professionalism and personality in the video really sets the bar for future salsa videos.

I sincerely hope that I get time off to attend Salsa Summer  in August. You guys are a real treat to watch and out of my library of videos yours really stand out. Keep up the good work.

Ian

Hi Edie,

I received your Ladies Styling video and absolutely love it! This is definitely the most detailed video I have ever seen! You really go to the roots of styling, not just the surface. That makes such a big difference.  Thank you for the CD as well. I have really enjoyed listening to it and learning the variety of and rhythms and timing. Your humor in both the video and CD is also what makes these video so enjoyable. I can tell you really love what you do!  Sybil

Hi Edie-
Sorry if this is the wrong place to comment on your Ladies Styling video but I couldn't find the right place to submit something to you and I had to tell you how great your video is.

I got it 8 days ago and have watched it (the section on your freedom concept) and practiced in the morning, before work and at night, after work, each day. Tonight I went out with friends, about 15 of us, and I had practiced the kick, the sit, the cigarette, the grind, the twist and the tap step. I did them all successfully!!! - 8 days ago some of them felt odd, like you said, but with each day they became more comfortable and I was able to do them "in time" tonight with a live guy at the end of my hands. It's true, like you said, about having to think about it while your dancing. I have a favorite guy to dance with who is always coming up with new things and tonight I surprised him. YOU WERE RIGHT- BOY DID HE HAVE A SMILE ON HIS FACE SEVERAL TIMES TONIGHT :) Especially with the sit, the grind and he loved it when I did the kick, coming out of a cross body lead like you demonstrated on the tape. He said he even noticed some guys off the dance floor watching me do this stuff like they had never seen it before.

This is the first video I have ever bought. Wasn't sure if I could teach myself from it or not but now because of the way your expertise and teaching skills come across on the video I know I can do it! This way I can have a class right here in the comfort of my own home and I am able to work on it in sections. I need to focus next on the arms and hands as you show in the beginning of the video. And the body wave, it still feels strange- That's going to take work and daily practice on my part but now I feel confident I can do it.

Thank you so much for making my evening a success and for making these guys, and me smile big time!!! :)

Debra

Edie,
I feel like I know you. I have your ladies' styling video, which I bought from a friend in London. I watch parts it most days and it has really helped me to improve my dancing over the last 3 months. Last time I went dancing in Dublin, a guy told me a few people had asked him who the girl in pink was - me! I don't believe it. I relate so much to your story that I just read on the web - I've come a long way, but I still need to learn a lot more. Thanks for your story, it really makes me feel better. And thank you very much for your videos. I'm ordering your spins video now.

Gratefully,  Lara Anderson  Dublin, Ireland

Just to let you know I received the videos, the one with Edie and Solomon is absolutely phenomenal (worth waiting)!    Thank you again!
Sincerely, Jolanta G

Hi Edie!
I just wanted to drop you a line about the Ladies Styling Video. I received
it last week and WOW! I loved it! I have seen a couple of Ladies Styling
videos but this was the first that actually used a lead in the to
demonstrate the moves as you would use them with a partner! Great Job!
Thanks!
Kristina

Hi Edie,

Just a few lines to let you know how much I enjoyed your technique class Saturday August 18,2001, at Debbie Reynold's Studio. Also I want to compliment your 90 minutes Ladies Styling video. You and Solomon have many good tips that both my husband and I can learn. We were so engrossed into your tape that 90 minutes flew by quick.
